ENERGY AND CLIMATE

Reduction in emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and adaptation to climate change have become important objectives of economic and environmental strategies in many countries, especially after the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol and the IPCC Assessment Reports. It is realized that several activities and sources, including non-renewable energy exploration and exploitation, contribute to the increase in concentrations of Greenhouse Gases in the atmosphere leading to global climate change. Therefore research, development, demonstration and use of different kinds of clean energy sources are very important and are supported by many organizations all over the world. There is a clear need to present and discuss problems related to energy, renewable energy and climate change in the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) and Mediterranean region

OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE

  • To present and discuss problems, best practices and appropriate technology led solutions in developing efficient energy systems in the Mediterranean and MENA regions with an emphasis on environmental protection, eco-systems, clean energy production, energy efficiency and practical cost-effective solutions.

  • The conference will address development of energy systems, particularly in the Mediterranean & MENA region. The conference will also highlight problems related to climate change, environment and energy, energy supply and financing of energy systems in all sectors as well as in remote and rural areas and financing of energy system in developing countries including the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

  • The conference is aimed at bringing together government experts, representatives of international organizations, the private sector, scientists, climatologists, researchers, scholars, and students, both at undergraduate and higher levels, in particular from the Mediterranean and the MENA regions. The Conference will showcase green and energy efficient technologies and renewable energy equipments.
